About this hiit workout generator
The HIIT workout generator turns four inputs — total minutes, work seconds, rest seconds, and level — into a fully-laid-out round-by-round plan from a bundled exercise pool. The pool changes with equipment: bodyweight (15 moves including burpees, mountain climbers, squat jumps), dumbbells (10 moves like thrusters and renegade rows), or a mixed bank. The number of rounds is computed as floor(totalSeconds ÷ (work + rest)), and intervals shift with level: beginners lose 5 seconds of work and gain 5 seconds of rest, advanced lifters do the reverse.
A worked example: 20 minutes total, 30s work, 15s rest, intermediate, bodyweight. The tool computes 20 × 60 ÷ 45 = 26 rounds and cycles through the bodyweight pool, so you get Jumping Jacks, High Knees, Burpees, Mountain Climbers, Push-Ups, Squat Jumps, Plank Shoulder Taps, and so on, each at 30s work / 15s rest. The actual time displayed adjusts to the rounded number of rounds. Everything saves to your device so you can return to the same plan tomorrow.
HIIT is high-intensity by design. Warm up first and consult a professional if you have heart or joint issues — this is an educational template, not medical advice.
FAQ
- What is a good work-to-rest ratio for HIIT?
- 2:1 (e.g. 30s work / 15s rest) is a solid intermediate default. Beginners often do 1:1 or 1:2 (more rest), while advanced athletes push toward 3:1. The generator nudges the ratio with your level setting.
- How many rounds will I get?
- Roughly total seconds ÷ (work + rest). A 20-minute session at 30s/15s gives ~26 rounds. The tool always shows the exact count after generating.
- Will the same exercise repeat?
- Yes — the pool is rotated. With 26 rounds and a 15-move bodyweight pool, each move appears about twice. That’s by design: HIIT works best when you can stay safe with a known movement under fatigue.
- Is HIIT safe for beginners?
- Beginners should start with shorter sessions (10–15 minutes) and longer rests. Skip plyometric moves if you have knee, hip, or back issues, and consult a professional if you’re unsure.
- Does the plan persist between visits?
- Yes. Your inputs and last generated plan are stored in your browser on this device. Use Reset to clear them.
- Should I warm up first?
- Always. 5 minutes of easy cardio plus joint mobility cuts injury risk dramatically. The HIIT plan itself does not include a warm-up.
