About this declutter checklist generator
The declutter checklist generator walks through your home one room at a time with the items that most often need a decision — expired food in the pantry, single socks in the closet, dead plants in the living room, mystery boxes in the garage. Eight rooms are supported (Kitchen, Bathroom, Bedroom, Closet, Living room, Garage, Office, Entryway) and each has six common candidates to consider. Select the rooms you are tackling and the tool produces an editable checklist with a Keep / Donate / Trash dropdown next to every item.
The decision picker is the point of the tool: deciding is the hard part of decluttering. As you mark items the result panel keeps a running count of how many you have committed to keep, donate, or throw away, so progress is visible. The full list, your decisions, and ticked-off items are stored in your browser's localStorage under "toolnest:declutter-checklist-generator" — nothing leaves the device.
For example, choose Kitchen and Closet. The Kitchen rows include "Expired food in pantry", "Duplicate utensils and gadgets", and "Mismatched lids and containers"; the Closet rows include "Wire hangers", "Single socks", and "Items with broken zippers". Tag the wire hangers Donate and the single socks Trash, tick them off as they leave the closet, and the summary updates the totals in real time.
FAQ
- What rooms are covered?
- Eight: Kitchen, Bathroom, Bedroom, Closet, Living room, Garage, Office, and Entryway. Each room ships with six common decluttering candidates.
- What do the Keep / Donate / Trash labels do?
- They record your decision per item and feed the running totals in the result panel. They don't move anything — the actual carrying-out is still on you — but they make commitments visible.
- Can I add my own items?
- Yes — every room block has a "+ add" button to insert a row, and every existing row's text is editable.
- Does the tool save my progress?
- Yes. Selected rooms, items, decisions, and ticks are stored in localStorage under "toolnest:declutter-checklist-generator". The data only exists on this device.
- How do I share or print the checklist?
- Press Generate checklist then Copy. The room-by-room plain-text list lands on your clipboard ready to paste into a document, email, or chat.
